Most of our customers in balloon and party shops are ‘the public’, they cannot claim back the VAT so now in a period of time when people are just starting to spend money again on entertainment we have all just been made to be either 2.5% more expensive or lose 2.5% of our profit.

Having been a dedicated volunteer of an association committee for 8 years I have witnessed first-hand how difficult it is to make ‘things’ happen, it is certainly not for the lack of enthusiasm on the part of committee members, on the contrary, committee members can and have given exceptional amounts of personal time and dedication to ensure tasks are undertaken, however, with all voluntary organisations and committees, time is a valuable commodity and running one’s own business and personal commitments rightly come first.

There are many benefits for an organisation such as this being privately run, but it also requires significant financial and personal investment which I am committed to giving.  Sadly there are those who will only perceive that it is purely for personal gain, I believe that the majority will see the true and long lasting benefits and will understand that in order for this to be successful, it has to achieve its aims and objectives and give the members and the industry what it wants.”

A clearly passionate and dedicated John goes on to say:

“There is a saying ‘No man is an island’, this organisation requires input and feedback from the industry. With the creation of two steering committees representing the retailer/ decorator and manufacturers all aspects of the industry can be addressed and projects implemented. It is paramount that all sectors are represented, with the input and support from each sector this organisation can fully represent our industry.

Apart from working to promote the industry and champion industry causes BAPIA also has many benefits to offer members. TransWorld Exhibits has announced its decision to cancel the International Party Show (IPS). Since its inception, the show has been dedicated to the needs of independent retailers, wholesalers and niche buyers of the party industry.

“TransWorld’s International Party Show has been dedicated to the party industry in the UK for more than 12 years,” said Joseph E. Thaler, chairman and chief executive officer of TransWorld Exhibits, Ltd, owner of the show. “During that time, we have had the distinct pleasure of working hand-in-hand with each of our exhibiting companies, attending buyers, and participating industry associations in growing their businesses. TransWorld has worked actively to address market fluctuations and provide a forum solely dedicated to those in the party industry we serve.”

“The cancellation of the International Party Show has been a difficult decision for TransWorld,” Thaler continued. “We have employed all manner of best practices to deliver quality events, including partnerships with industry associations and publications, extensive marketing and public relations campaigns, practical educational seminars, and enjoyable networking events. In 2006, TransWorld enlisted NEC Managed Events to assist us in furthering these efforts and in the re-branding of IPS. Even with these initiatives, the 2008 International Party Show achieved only marginal growth. Further, based on current economic conditions of the industry, growth over the next few years is projected to fall short of acceptable levels. Therefore, TransWorld Exhibits has decided to cancel IPS and to concentrate our efforts on the company’s events in the United States.”
